In the latest revelation in regards to the payment protection mis-selling scandal, an undercover reporter has unveiled what has been described as 'serious failings' in the way Lloyds TSB has been dealing with PPI claims. According to the insider, staff have been encouraged to 'play the system' and 'ignore possible fraud by Lloyds TSB salesmen' and this latest ppi claims news is yet another blow to the reputation of one of the UK's largest banks.
In an article published by the BBC it has been revealed that a company employed by Lloyds TSB to attempt to deal with millions of complaints in regards to the mis-selling of PPI has been encouraging staff to delay the claims progress for many clients in the hope that the complainants will 'give up'. The PPI complaints handling centre in question is Royal Mint Court in central London, which Lloyds TSB says it has since stopped using.
Stories have emerged that staff were encouraged to 'play the system,' told to 'ignore possible fraud by Lloyds TSB salesmen' and 'drag out claims' in the hope that frustrated claimants would not want to continue with the claim.
Lloyds TSB say that as soon as the problems were uncovered following an investigation, immediate action was taken which resulted in the bank switching to another provider to carry out the work. Lloyds TSB has described the problems that were found as 'isolated comments' which were not endorsed by Lloyds Banking Group.
The third party company carrying out the work on behalf of Lloyds TSB has responded, saying that they processed PPI Claims in 'accordance with bank policies and procedures' and that they 'provided a high level of service throughout the period'.
It had been noticed much earlier in the year by many claims management companies that Lloyds TSB were making the PPI claims process slow and difficult for many clients. Back in February, a spokesman for MoneyBoomerang described Lloyds handling of PPI complaints as a 'monolithic and inefficient bureaucracy' and that the 'bank was simply not keeping up'.
According to the Financial Ombudsman Service, many PPI policies purchased have NOT yet been subject to a complaint, which means millions of people are potentially missing out on a windfall that they should rightfully claim.
